Synthesis and Sound Design
Preset surfing wastes hours and rarely gives you the sound you actually need. Understanding synthesis lets you design sounds that fit your track perfectly instead of bending your music around random presets.
How Synthesis Actually Works
We start with subtractive synthesis because it's the foundation everything else builds on. You'll learn oscillators, filters, envelopes, and modulation routing until they become second nature. Then we move into FM synthesis, which sounds complicated but follows logical rules once you understand operator relationships and modulation indices.
Wavetable synthesis comes next, covering wavetable navigation, morphing techniques, and the modulation strategies that create evolving textures. We also cover sampling and granular synthesis for hybrid sound design approaches.
Each lesson includes analysis of commercial tracks, breaking down how specific sounds were likely created. You'll recreate bass sounds from popular tracks, design pad textures that sit properly in busy arrangements, and build lead sounds with character and movement.
